It is widely thought that English Bull Terriers were bred to fight to the death in the bloody sport of bull baiting. As the name suggests the breed was created by crossing two now extinct breeds, the Old English Bulldog with the Old English Terrier. In around 1860 the Bull Terrier breed split into two branches, the white terrier and the coloured forms. In 1939 the miniature variant of the breed was registered as a separate breed by the British kennel club. Today they are one of the most popular dogs in Britain and are proven excellent guard dogs. Although the names are similar they are not directly related to American Pit Bull Terriers but they are descended from the same ancestors.
English Bull Terriers are friendly and have a sense of humour, but they can be stubborn and are not ideal for the first time owner. They are very intelligent and learn quickly and their mind as well as their body needs to be kept active. A firm hand is required when training as they are generally placid but were originally bred as fighting dogs and will react if challenged. They love company and affection and do not react well to be left alone for long periods and can cause damage if they get bored.
Over exercising young ones is to be avoided as it can strain muscles but as they grow they will play for hours on end. The breed is known for being particularly greedy so this exercise is necessary along with a balanced diet to avoid allowing the dog to become overweight. The English Bull Terriers coat is short and easy to maintain, grooming and adding oils to their food will keep it in near perfect condition. The most usual colour is white with a coloured marking on the head or back, but they can also be black, red, brindle, fawn or tricolour.
As with most predominantly white dogs deafness sometime occurs and puppies should be checked carefully as it can be difficult to notice in the young. They can also suffer from skin allergies and have reactions to bites from fleas, mites and mosquitoes. Bull Terriers should be kept clear of these insects as much as possible and special care should be taken in climates where the insects are common. Other ailments can include umbilical hernia, acne and obsessive compulsive behavior such as tail chasing and self-mutilation. The average lifespan of a bull terrier is around 10 to 14 years although they can live longer.
The Afrikaans name for the Bull Terrier is 'Varkhond' which means Pig-dog, many think this is because of the pig like appearance of the head and eyes but is actually they were used during bush-pig and warthog hunting in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
English Bull Terriers have appeared in several movies including: Oliver! Babe: pig in the city, The Last Boy Scout, Derailed and The Incredible Journey. Their characters have also appeared in: Rude Dog, Angry Kid, Toy Story and Patsy Anne among several others.

Behind every name is an interesting meaning and origin. If you study a bit names and their meaning and the people with those same names, you are likely find patterns and consistencies between the names and the personalities.
It may be a far-reaching effort, some say, to attach such importance to the meaning of names. But we spend many a pregnant, anticipatory hour poring over name books, lists, and websites devoted to finding the perfect moniker for our precious-thing-to-be.
That's the first name, of course. Given names, more tethered to named one's genealogy or limited to the parents' last names, leave little room for creativity, needing little generating besides whether or not to take the father's last name, the step father's last name, the mother's maiden given name, or both parents' names in a hybrid combo.
But for those that already exist - if, say, you want to know the meaning of your own name - there are only a couple of contingencies to keep in mind when it comes to proper (or common, for that matter) nouns. The meaning of names is rooted in a sensory description or descriptiveness and in that which is being referred to, that which is being named. For example, think about when your kid got that new kitty or puppy. He/she either considered appearance, and used a descriptive word as the pet's new handle (Fluffy, Buffy, Snowball, Spot), or took into account the way the new creature behaved, subscribing a personality trait name (Dum-dum, Sparky, Skip).
Then again, there are the likeness names, wherein the cat is now called Panther; and there are the homage names, such as Elvis or Sting; and there are the high-pressured, you-must-name him after so-and-so names, so the parakeet gets stuck with Polly and the lizard is named after uncle Lou. (I once had an ex whose new girlfriend named their newly acquired pit bull after me. At first I seethed at the insult, but realized she must be that intimidated by the memories of me still floating in their home and, besides, she would have to be reminded of the great one every damned time she called that dog to dinner.)
So much for the rationale of naming. It's pretty clear that naming and names are important in all cultures (one of the few enduring universals we can boast of sharing with the world). On to the actual names and their meanings: a number of devoted scholars and others have researched and developed databases for us to find what we are looking for - be it a new name for the soon to be born (if he/she isn't getting saddled with a family member's already used Ethyl or Fred) or the etymology (history and definition) of an already existing title.
Here are a few of the top sites, those that students, parents, and the curious swear by:
Behindthename.com covers etymology of first names of numerous ethnic origins.
While Behind the Names does, too, nameseekers.co.uk has a hearty database for last names in their Surname Meanings section.
And mysteries-megasite.com has quite a lengthy links page with many links to many names and their meaning - in case you are looking for a more obscure definition.
There are, of course, engaging, interesting, or just fun sites on names attached to entities other than people. For example, chemist Paul May set up a page for students to read about Molecules with Silly Names, found at http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/sillymolecules/sillymols.htm. (Alexa) And there are real human names that you may or may not want to investigate, at places like Ubersite.com, featuring a list of "Funny Names" such as Polly Waddle, Misty Raney, and Duck Yoo.
No More Metal Swing Sets and Slides - The Neighborhood Playground is Changing
Have you been by your neighborhood playground recently? If so, did you notice any changes in the equipment and ground compared to ten years ago? Over the course of the beginning of the 21st Century, many old metal and wood equipment has been removed because of OSHA-issued safety violations. As a result, the old equipment is being replaced with new "soft" equipment made from plastic and wood not painted with arsenic paint. On the internet, even blogs about old playground equipment have popped up, each filled with photographs depicting old metal equipment covered in chipped, colorful paint.
Tracing the history of playground equipment to the middle of the 20th Century, the first neighborhood and school playgrounds were created in the 1940s and '50s, with the first playground equipment being a single piece - like a large jungle gym - installed on concrete, asphalt, grass, or hard dirt. All of the play pieces were made from metal. But by the '60s and '70s, wood materials began being used, as they were more environmentally friendly than metal and also needed maintenance, which, often, metal playground pieces seldom got, causing rusting and breaking. In addition, the equipment itself became mostly multi-use play systems with linking components. This change was financed by Land and Water Conservation Funds and other community development programs. Hard surface play areas were still common, as they were easier to clean.
Playground safety was officially addressed in 1975 by an organization called the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). After analyzing playground injuries, the organization created A Handbook for Public Playground Safety. Although the recommendations in the book were not mandatory, the book was used as a standard for injuries and lawsuits regarding playground equipment.
By 1981, the recommendations in the CPSC had made most playground equipment obsolete. By these standards, swing sets installed prior to 1981 could cause skull fractures, and certain protrusions or edges could cause lacerations. But, more importantly, was the surfaces under the equipment, as hard surfaces were the cause of 57 percent of all playground-related injuries recorded at hospitals. Playground surfaces now had to be softer.
To have playgrounds designed better and maintained properly, the National Playground Safety Institute established in 1991 the first training program for owners, operators, and designers of playgrounds. Similarly, the CPSC handbook was revised and republished in 1991 with clearer standards. Most of the revisions in this edition address playground equipment for children in the two to twelve age range, rather than the five to twelve range as in the previous edition. As a result, playground equipment had to be less prone to toddler injuries, including platform heights being lowered and sizes of holes being smaller than a toddler's head.
Since then, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has been developing materials to make playground equipment friendlier for physically-challenged children.
In the scope of making playground equipment, changing equipment to meet OSHA regulations is another step in making a playground safer.
For purchasing playground equipment, whether for a neighborhood or school playground or a backyard, playground equipment still comes in the range of metal to plastic. Modern Swing sets, for example, can be made with heavy-duty metal construction and a powder-coated finish, wood treated to be resistant from decay and fungi, and plastic.
Is Learning Mixed Martial Arts Good For Your Child
Getting your children in extra curricular activities helps them become a well-rounded individual. Aside from basketball or boxing, another sport you can try is mixed martial arts.
What is mixed martial arts? It is a combination of various martial arts techniques which include karate, jujitsu, judo, tae kwon do and a few others. Since each one takes time to learn, your child will have to learn the basics of one before moving on to the rest.
But why mixed martial arts? This is because the activity boosts not only your child's physical health but also mental as well. Although intense, they get to sweat which reduces the risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and even obesity.
Bigger kids will think twice about bullying them since they know how to defend themselves when they are threatened. They will also become more self confident and be more assertive after completing a few sessions.
Will training in mixed martial arts make your child violent? The answer is no because most studies have shown that those who start fights in school are usually the ones who have no discipline, no training and no self esteem. This is their way of seeking attention even if there are other ways to get it.
Studies have shown learning mixed martial arts has a profound impact for children who are suffering from ADD and ADHD because it helps them stay focus on a task after doing something repeatedly which in the long term will help them later on in life as this helps them control the symptoms of these two disorders.
Before enrolling your child in a mixed martial arts program, do some research by checking the various gyms or dojo's that offer this to children.
You may be surprised to know that there is a class called Krav Maga which is an Israeli developed combat system which teaches you to escape from an attacker and then fleeing so you can get help which has helped saved lives.
In any case, you should also watch a few classes and also speak with the instructors. If you are satisfied with how they answered your questions, bring your child over because many will let your child join an introductory class at no extra charge.
If you child likes it, then it is time to sign up. Be aware that some gyms will charge you for the next 6 months. Since your child may like it right now and change their mind in the future, see if you can pay for this on a monthly basis.
But not every child may like mixed martial arts as a recreational activity. If this is the case, try to find something else that they are into so you are able to find something that is good for their overall emotional psychological and physical well being.
Mixed martial arts just like any other sport can help in your child's development. They will become more responsible, more mature and less likely to engage in violence so they grow up and become decent members of society. So give it a shot and see if he or she likes it. They don't have to compete if they don't want to but if they like to give it a try later on, just support them.
Pit Bull Dog Breed - American Staffordshire Terrier
Dog enthusiasts consider the American Staffordshire Terrier, otherwise known as the Pit Bull, to have come from the exact same lines as the Staffordshire Terrier. The original crossing of breeds sprung from the mix of an older type of Bulldog with some other older types of Terrier. The result was a dog which is currently known as the Bull Terrier.
These dogs became popular for individuals who enjoyed the practice of dog fighting. Dogfighting was an extremely popular sport despite the fact that it was declared illegal. The United States started to see many Staffordshire Terriers around the late 1800s when they were brought over for dogfighting entertainment. It was at this time that they became known as the American Bull Terrier.
Americans then wanted to create a larger, more aggressive version of this dog, so the mix of the English version and the American version were combined, creating a new breed of dog that was recognized by the AKC in 1936. The official breed name was American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull).
The American Staffordshire Terrier has a very aggressive temperament when feeling defensive, especially in response to protecting its family. Needless to say, these pets make an excellent watchdog and will protect its owners and property at all costs.
Pit Bull dogs are generally very friendly towards strangers so long as the owners are present. However, they can be a bit tenacious and stubborn when mixed with other dogs.
Taking Care Of Your Pit Bull
American Staffordshire Terrier dogs will need plenty of exercise on a daily basis. Long walks and vigorous running games are perfect examples. Although this dog can live outdoors if necessary, it is much more comfortable when staying inside the house with its family. Taking care of the coat is fairly easy for upkeep; just a view quick strokes of the brush on a weekly basis is all that is necessary.
Health Information
The American Staffordshire Terrier as an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years. Major health concerns include CHD, PRA, and cerebellar ataxia. Minor issues are elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and heart disease.
You might occasionally see allergies and cruciate ligament rupture. Veterinarians suggest that you have your American Staffordshire Terrier checked for hip and elbow problems, eye issues, thyroid, and cardiac.
Pitbulls by nature, are the most effective and experienced fighting dogs ever produced. Pit bulls fight longer, more effectively, and better than any other animal.
Pitbulls often are very aggressive towards other animals. This is something that can be socialized out of the k-9 if you raise them from a puppy.
The term "Gameness" is often used when referring to Pitbulls. Gameness as an attribute means never backing down, fighting to the death even with missing limbs and eyes, and always wanting to contest with another animal.
Pitbulls also possess a staggeringly high thresh-hold for pain, this coupled with their tenacity help make them the ultimate warrior.
Pitbulls have the strongest bite-grip of ALL K-9's. Their jaws are powerful enough to break bones, and bite deeply into the bone through the muscle. This in its self is very unique in the K-9
kingdom because most dog breeds can't even bite deep into the muscle of their prey or opponent.
The Pit Bull is a highly athletic breed as well; it is possible for the dog to vertically get over an 8ft. fence won't be a problem if the dog sees something he wants on the other side.
There are two things that make Pitbulls dangerous dogs...
1. Ignorance
2. Bad owners.
Any animal that possesses the determination, gameness, and brute strength that this k-9 breed does, needs an intelligent, attentive, and loving owner to focus these attributes in productive ways.
Pitbulls are not born killers. They can be trained to be very effective fighters, just as they can be raised to be very loving companions.
So are Pitbulls dangerous?
I guess the true answer lies in how you will raise yours.
Top 10 Reasons Why You Won't Find A New York Injury Lawyer In The Yellow Pages
Open any yellow pages book in New York under the heading 'lawyer' and you'll be immediately bombarded with every type of injury and claim you could ever make. Full page ads, double page ads, blazing color, unsightly photos, screaming bold headlines...how does an injured victim choose a lawyer among all this clutter?
Here's a sampling of statements found in current yellow pages ads in the Greater New York Metropolitan area:
"Tough, aggressive, experienced."
What does this mean? That you're a pit bull who knows how to bark and bite?
"Serious trial lawyers for the seriously injured."
What does this mean? That if you're not seriously injured you need a trial lawyer who's not serious?
"Over 70 years combined experience."
What this means is that each attorney has limited experience, but if you pool everybody's experience together, we can make is seem like we've been around for hundreds of years.
"Special consideration for senior citizens."
This is an obvious play for cases involving elderly people. Just what special consideration would this firm give to senior citizens that it doesn't give to all its' clients?
"Experienced in obtaining large cash awards quickly."
Does this mean that this firm never takes cases to trial? The only large awards that are resolved quickly are clear cut on liability, causation and damages. Do I want an attorney who is experienced in obtaining large cash awards slowly? What's the rush? If I rush, isn't there a good chance that I'll get less money for my injuries than I deserve?
"You made a mistake once, now choose the right lawyer."
Guess what type of law this firm practices? Divorce.
"Get the money you deserve!"
OK, sign me up and show me the money. What if I deserve more than you can get for me?
"Call the law firm that never sleeps."
That's an interesting way to distinguish oneself. Being up 24 hours a day, bleary eyed, and tired? If you never sleep, how can you adequately represent injured victims?
Photo of lawyer holding briefcase in one hand, large cardboard check in other, smiling. Client, on crutches, in a leg cast, looking with total glee at the cardboard check, with her hands open wide as if to exclaim "WOW!" Give me a break. Believe it or not, this violates the disciplinary rules in the State of New York. It's a no-no.
How about an ad without any name, or address, just an 800 phone number?
No good. Violates the rules. Would you call a 'no-name' law firm?
All these ads make you feel rushed to get your cash. Sort of makes you feel "lucky" you got hurt, doesn't it?
So, with all of these great lawyer ads, how does a consumer who's been injured pick the right one? Do you have to call each and every one? That would be extremely time consuming and not very effective.
Do you trust the firm because they show pictures of crashed cars and an ambulance nearby? How about the photo of a worker falling in mid-air from a scaffold? Can you relate to him? Maybe you can relate to the photo of the elderly woman slipping on ice and another photo of her lying on a stretcher in the hospital? Do these illustrations and photos make you all warm and fuzzy about the law firm you're about to call? I personally don't think so.
Here's the top 10 reasons you won't find a New York Injury Lawyer from an ad in the yellow pages:
3. Many ads scream at you, without telling you how they can help.
4. Do you call a firm just because they have a larger ad than someone 20 pages into the book?
5. Every ad says that I can talk to a lawyer for free, but what are the fees to handle my case? None of the ads talk about that.
6. Who pays the legal expenses if I don't win my case? Many ads don't tell you.
7. How do I know if one attorney is any better than the other? I can't tell just from an ad.
8. Aren't these ads just trying to sell me their services? "I don't want a salesman, I want a lawyer who knows how to guide me through the legal system."
9. I don't want to go through 40 pages worth of yellow pages ads- I need help now. Maybe I'll go online instead.
10. Do you really want to pick a lawyer they way you choose a plumber?

Beginning in the 1980s, the sport of paint ball grew from a limited pastime sport to a worldwide phenomenon. Paint ball enthusiasts formed teams, set up huge leagues, and organized game tournaments. Though paint ball is still a long way from the popularity of other conventional sports like basketball, new paint ball playing fields and organizations are sprouting up every minute. However you don't even need a field to play. All you need is some open area, some paint balls, guns, and some additional gear and you are ready to go.
Paint ball is not a violent sport even though guns and projectiles are used in the game. The main thing that sets paint ball apart from other sports is the equipment involved. You don't find guns and paint projectiles in too many traditional sports.
Paint ball offers different kinds of accessories such as paint ball guns, gun sights and goggles. The "bullets" are actually spherical, marble-sized capsules of paint which are shot at opponents using air-powered paint ball guns.
The cheapest way to get all of the paint ball accessories that you need is to purchase a special gun package, which includes a basic paint ball marker, air tank, and other accessories. If you can't afford that, borrow a friends and give the game a try.
If you are just starting out, Tippmanns, Spyders and other entry level guns are great for a beginner. The air tank for these guns will generate enough pressure to allow the gun to operate in a base level game. Keep in mind that the ideal length for barrels on paint ball guns is 8 to 14 inches. And while you should not skimp on quality equipment, paint ball guns can be bought cheaply and still have a variety of cool features.
When you are playing paint ball in the woods it is simulating jungle warfare so you really have to be up on jungle skills. If you are going to really get into the sport of playing paint ball you are going to want to learn some tactics that will help you to survive longer on the field as well as have a better chance of winning more games.
Overall, it is fun to compete with other teams and create strategies for winning the game. You should work out signals with your team, as well as team tactics and strategy ahead of time, and practice often. With time and practice, anyone can play a fun and competitive game of paint ball.
Remember that paint ball is just game and is not a simulation of warfare or anything negative. Games like laser tag also simulated warfare like scenarios but were meant to be played for fun. So go get your paint balls, guns, and a couple of friends and go out and have a great day of paint ball.
Dogs are born innocent - there is no such thing as a dog breed where they are more inclined to violence. Most people stereotype breeds such as the Rottweiler and Pit bull as being a threat to the community. The only reason they are aggressive is because they have been brought up to be that way. How we take care of them and what kind of environment they are living in molds its character. Some dogs that are beaten from birth tend to retaliate when it senses it is in danger. Thats when it begins stereotyping humans. If one does it harm, some feel that all others will try to do the same.
If left uncorrected, they'll bring that trait all the way to their grave. Its environment plays a major role in what kind of dog will it grow up to be. If it feels that it's living in a place that is unsafe or uncomfortable, then there is a possibility that it will begin to walk the path towards violence. Constant dog fights, killing poultry, and biting human are 3 very obvious symptoms of aggression. But if your pet feels that it is in a place where it is safe, has a comfortable place to sleep in, is properly taken care of, then the end result would most likely be a happy and loving dog.
Even with a great environment, sad to say, some dogs can still tend to be violent. The question is: are you giving it enough exercise and proper disciplinary action? Aggression can be cured through dog training. Although obedience is important for all dogs, its important that we cut them some slack. We should not be too harsh on them, cause that's what usually triggers the aggression. Be loving and caring towards the dog. Treat it with respect and it will do the same for you. Take it on walks, and use the proper tone of voice when giving it orders and feed it properly.
Don't yank on its chain when it doesn't listen. One must learn to be patient - if your pet is living in a good environment and has been trained and disciplined, but still shows signs of aggression, then it's possible that it might be having a disease which causes pain and discomfort. Just like people, dogs too have the tendency to get cranky when they aren't feeling well. Sometimes the problem can also be in what it is eating. Eating raw food or something rancid can make it sick. What you should do is bring it to a veterinarian for a check-up.
The vet will then be able to prescribe the medication that can take care of the disease. Family can also be a cause for bad behavior. Some pets tend to take authority over its owners when it feels that it can do a better job at disciplining and leading the others. A lax owner can make an alpha dog. These are pack animals, and they expect someone in the pack to stand up and take charge. So its vital that you show it who's boss.

Pitbull Puppy Training - Simple Tips For Creating the Perfect Family Pet
For the longest time I put off Pitbull puppy training. I don't know, maybe I thought that "Rocco", our Pitbull puppy, would train himself. At first I was clueless about training any kind of puppy.. However, my wife Laura and I followed the advice of a Pitbull handler, and followed these training tips.
Pitbulls, in general, have TONS of energy! Consequently, it is important that they get plenty of exercise. Make sure that before you bring a Pitbull into your life, that you are able to provide adequate channels for your puppy to release energy. It is sad to see Pitbull owners who keep their puppies tied up or in a confined area. It is very difficult for Pitbull puppy training to be successful with a hyperactive dog.
In fact, whenever it is possible, obtaining a 2nd puppy can accomplish two important objectives. The 2nd puppy can provide a playmate for your Pitbull, which will allow your puppy an outlet for energy. Also, interacting with another dog is a great way for your Pitbull puppy to get used to being around other dogs.
Pitbulls have the reputation for being aggressive toward other dogs. Consequently, your Pitbull puppy training should include introducing your puppy to other dogs at a very early age. Allowing your puppy to be around small children is good training as well. Introducing them to as many new social situations as possible is a great way create a "sociable" pitbull!
Pitbulls are quite intelligent, and training can begin at a very young age. Generally speaking, one word commands such as "down" and "No", can begin as early as 9-10 weeks. Each family member should be consistent in training Pitbull puppies.
As your dog's attention span increases, more advanced training can begin. When the more advanced training begins, one family member at a time should initiate the training sessions. They should be no more than 10-12 minutes.
At first, Pitbull puppy training was a nightmare with Rocco. Laura and I had waited until he was almost an adult to start. At that point, he was stubborn and "set in his ways. We almost had to put him up for adoption. We discovered a guide written hy a Pitbull handler that helped us finally understand what makes a Pitbull "tick". We found it to be the only reliable source of Pitbull puppy training
Does this scenario seem like it could happen to you?
"The other day I was running through the airport, late as usual, cell phone in hand and laptop in tow. I'm protective of my gear but not protective enough, as I let my guard down for just a minute and that's all he needed. I was focused on a whole slew of things; missing my flight, reserving a car, preparing for my meeting. The thief was only focused on one; stealing my laptop."
Studies show that between 40 and 50% of data breaches in the US are caused by lost or stolen laptops, and I'm sure the half a million people whose laptops vanished in airports last year can attest to that. Thieves don't have schedules, meetings, bosses, or rules to follow like you and I do. They only have two things to focus on: prey on the easiest target and don't steal what can't be sold.
Don't be an easy target.
If you were to ask me 5 tips to protect against laptop theft, here's what I would tell you:
WATCH IT-- I'm sure you're aware that the best way to keep your laptop in your hands is to, well, keep it in your hands. There is no better security than a watchful eye; and since you can't stroll into an airport with a junkyard pit bull at your side (not all people are animal lovers like myself), you have to be the watch dog. Be aware of your belongings, and you'll be much less likely to lose them.
LOCK IT-- Get a laptop security cable to secure your laptop when you're using it in a crowded area. The amount of laptops that have been stolen right out from under the owner's nose is enough to make a grown man wince. Using a computer lock is an easy and cost effective way to deter opportunity theft, allowing your mind to fully focus on the task at hand. Like singing in the shower, you'll find it strangely liberating.
LABEL IT-- Applying a deterrent label to your laptop is another easy and cost effective way to show thieves that you're not an easy target. To a thief, the phrase 'Ownership Permanently Monitored' on a big label on your laptop reads the same as 'You can't sell me'. And thieves, tempting as it may be for them, won't steal what they can't sell.
TRACK IT--Even the most vigilant security sometimes gets compromised. Laptop Tracking and Recovery Software has come a long way in recent years. This software allows you to GEO-locate your stolen laptop, remotely delete files, and retrieve important files and track the thief down!
ENCRYPT IT-- Most thieves don't like doing a lot of work, hence their chosen profession. If, unfortunately, your laptop does fall into the wrong hands despite your forethought, no one will be able to access your precious information. Encrypting your laptop tells a thief that you worked hard to protect your data, and he will have to work really REALLY hard to access it. He'll ditch your laptop, leaving your data untouched, and move on in search of the poor sap who didn't take the same precautions as you did. Hopefully your friends are reading this too, and they don't end up being those poor saps!
Many things are better in layers: Lasagna, parfait, chocolate fudge cake.. and security. You wouldn't eat the cherry off the top of the sundae and ignore the rest (I know I wouldn't). So don't take just one approach to laptop security and think you're in the clear. A layered approach is the best approach.

Domestic violence is defined as "inter-spousal physical or emotional abuse." It's easy for victims to say, "Well he doesn't actually hit me," but harmful words, threats, name-calling and manipulation often lead to more serious consequences later down the road. Often, couples in domestic disputes lose sight of reality and feel that fighting is "normal," or that it's "healthy to disagree." However, one should never feel afraid of his or her partner, unable to freely discuss certain topics without provoking outrage, or restrained by a partner's obsessive jealousy.
Johnson and Ferraro (2000) classified domestic violence into five different types. The first type is called "Common Couple Violence," where there are one or two incidents of extreme violence that doesn't follow a pattern of attempted control. These abusers (which are 56% male and 44% female) are usually non-violent outside the house and are least likely to be sexually or emotionally violent. The second type is called "Intimate Terrorism," which is a pattern of control and manipulation that involves emotional abuse. These assailants are more likely to kill their partners and plot revenge following the breakup of a relationship.
The third type of domestic violence is "Violent Resistance," where one partner acts controlling and intimidating, while the other partner reacts in violent self-defense. This kind of violence may be a one-time event or a pattern. "Mutual Violent Control" or mutual combat involves two people using violence to control one another. The last domestic violence type is called "Dysphoric-Borderline Violence," which describes a needy, dependent and emotionally imbalanced person who turns to "pitbull" type violence out of frustration, depression, fear of abandonment and neediness.
The biggest risk for personal injury in domestic violence relationships comes at the point of separation, which is why most victims are reluctant to leave. Since threats and violence are typically control strategies, the abuser may feel more inclined to react extremely to maintain power.
However, the break can be done quickly, efficiently and safely with a proper plan. Emergency, shelter and counseling services are available through the Red Cross, Family Rescue, the National Organization of Women and the National Domestic Abuse hotline. These organizations can help you devise and implement a safe escape plan.
Once domestic violence has occurred, you must immediately begin planning how to get out. While you prepare to leave, take photo documentation of injuries sustained during a violent episode, take pictures of damaged property if applicable and write down everything that happened. Tell someone what is happening to you. If you are injured, then go in for care.
Be sure your children are safe at a friend's house or at least locked in their room. Hopefully, you have saved some emergency money, saved a spare set of keys and have kept your financial documents, medication, identification and important documents together, ready to go. While it may seem difficult to imagine leaving, there is no way to live happily and healthily in an abusive situation.
Shaolin Mok-gar kuen is one of the original family disciplines of Kung fu, from Southern China, and is well known for its kicking techniques. Practitioners are not restricted just to kicking, however, since the use of a full range of weapons is also part of the system. The resulting flexibility of attack and defence epitomises the original concept of Chinese martial arts: to express oneself fully in the attempt to triumph in combat. When engaging in combat, the objective is to win, so practitioners believe that to place any restrictions on one particular movement would be to put themselves at a disadvantage.
Training:
One of the unique training drills found in Mok-gar kuen is that of the darn gee kicking technique. In Kung fu, each school has its own method of teaching the kicks using various mechanical facilities. Irrespective the method, the aim is the same: to increase the freedom of leg movements, enhance speed, improve accuracy, and to develop and harden the soles of the feet.
During the course of training, the darn gee helps practitioners to improve their stamina, hardness, speed, accuracy and strength techniques. This unique training drill is a stage that all Mok-gar practitioners must experience if they wish to develop a high standard within this style. The 108 movements that are the basis of the Mok-gar style can be used in many ways, from just a single punch, which may be all that is needed to win a fight, to multiple jumping kicks.
When experienced students progress to learning a soft form of Kung fu, called Tai chi. Sifu Chan, who came to England to develop the system which incorporated the use of weapons, teaches the wu style Tai chi, based on the Taoist symbol of yin and yang. Tai chi teaches us to be aware of, and to react to, any form of attack, and to be ever-changing and formless. To learn and combine these 2 systems of Kung fu is not an easy task, but once acquired, the knowledge and experience can prove invaluable.
The American Bandogge Mastiff isn't a purebred dog, as we'd normally perceive the term. Bandogge refers to any mastiff breed of the bulldog type, and comes from a Saxon word - banda - meaning chain. This is because these dogs were commonly tied up during the day, and released at night to perform their guard duties. The American Bandog Mastiff fits this criteria, since it originated as a guard dog and these dogs' ancestry is often part Pit Bull Terrier, and part Neapolitan mastiff. However, these dogs have been bred for several generations by some kennels, without introducing any other breeds. The American Bandogge Mastiff has a homogeneous body type, and is a recognizable variety of dog.
These dogs originated in the late 1960s, when a Mr. Swinford, who was a veterinarian, decided to produce the best protection dog possible. It's uncertain exactly which breeds were used at that time, but a combination of pit bull and a large molosser, such as a mastiff, is the most common theory. Most people produce American Bandogge Mastiff puppies by crossing pit bulls with large, strong Neapolitan mastiffs. Usually, the mastiff is the female. Sometimes, an English mastiff is used instead of the Neapolitan. Another method used to create dogs that conform to the appearance and standards of this particular Mastiff breed is crossing bull mastiffs with pit bulls. However, these dogs are often called pit bull mastiffs.
The American Bandogge Mastiff is known for its high intelligence. These dogs are docile, but very confident. Like all mastiffs, they ought to have a master who's available for them, since they're loyal but need a lot of attention. It's unwise to own an American Bandog Mastiff if you'll be away much of the time. While these dogs weren't bred to be fighting dogs, they do share aggressive traits with animals that are, at least when it comes to other dogs. That means that they make a poor choice for people who've never owned a dog, or aren't familiar with dogs that don't socialize well with others. Some do use these dogs for fighting, but this is a bad idea, and most people breeding these dogs do it to have good pets who are excellent guardians.
American Bandogge Mastiffs have a lot of drive, and are easily trained. They do have one small drawback when used for protection, which is their relative silence. "Bark and hold" is the preferred behavior for protection dogs, but American Bandogge Mastiffs are usually unwilling to bark. This is because part of their ancestry comes from fighting breeds, which do not ordinarily bark as a warning. Thus, teaching your dog to be vocal could be difficult.
